Appeal after man shot in foot

POLICE are launching an investigation after man was shot in the foot.

The 19-year-old was walking along Maple Crescent, in Leigh, on Tuesday August 18, when the shot was fired.

The pellet was lodged in the victim’s left foot near his Achilles heel and he was taken to hospital for a minor operation.

A group of youths, aged around 15, were seen running away from the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We have had a recent incident on Maple Crescent, Leigh involving someone being shot by a pellet gun.

“This has been crimed as a section 20GBH (wounding) as the pellet penetrated the victim’s foot.

“Youths were seen running away from the scene.

“A reminder to all - a pellet gun can cause serious injury to people, even death. It is illegal to carry any firearm in public without a sheath.

“You can receive six months in prison for possessing an air weapon in public regardless of whether it is loaded or not. You can receive five years for an offence of wounding.

“We also issue a warning to parents - if you have air weapons please keep them under lock and key well away from your children. Do not buy your children these items. They are weapons, not toys.”
