Appeal after man dies in serious collision

POLICE are appealing for information after a man died in a serious collision.

The 62-year-old man from the Leigh area died following the incident on the A539 Winwick Lane near Croft on Thursday.

The man was driving a Nissan which was involved in a collision with a DAF truck van close to the junction of Sandy Brow Lane at around 12.10pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van was uninjured.

Winwick Lane was closed in both directions between junction 22 of the M6 and Newton Road in Golborne for several hours following the incident.

Cheshire Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to ring 101, quoting incident number 379 of 18/6/2015.
