A ROW has developed between a resident and landlord amid claims a joiner carrying out work drilled into an electrical cable.

Pamela Purslow, from Leigh, complained about how Adactus Housing had gone about replacing window frames in the living room of her home in Tower Grove.

In the most concerning incident, Pamela said a joiner knocked a clock off the lounge wall and gave himself an electric shock after his drill connected with a cable in the wall.

Pamela said the resulting hole then had to be filled by a plasterer, covering her furniture in dust and forcing her to shell out hundreds of pounds to have her sofa, curtains and carpets steam-cleaned in the last couple of months.

Pamela, who is a leaseholder of the apartment and pays a monthly service change to Adactus for external maintenance, is also extremely unhappy after the housing provider offered her just £40 in compensation when she contacted bosses to explain how much inconvenience the work had caused.

Pamela, 54, said: “I’m really cross and this is affecting my health. I feel like they are trying to insult me with their compensation offer. What happened with the joiner really frightened me, in my opinion he could have been killed.

“I envisaged this would be a simple repair to my internal lounge window but after that it took all weekend to clear up after the plaster had been removed from the wall and when the plasterer arrived that was more mess. I am partially disabled and rarely venture outdoors so take a pride in my home as it is where I spend most of my time.”

Pamela says the difficulties began on New Year’s Day when a window catch snapped on the frame, and the workman who arrived could only drill it shut. This was followed by further visits by three different employees over the following five days.

Adactus bosses visited Pamela at home to inspect the damage two days after the plasterer visited and have subsequently maintained their initial compensation offer.

An Adactus spokesman said: “We are aware of Ms Purslow’s complaint regarding minor damage to her property at Tower Grove in Leigh. All repairs have been completed and an offer of compensation made.

“We have advised Mrs Purslow of our formal complaints process should she wish to take the matter further.”
