A social housing provider based in the borough has been hailed the ninth best not-for-profit organisation in the country to work for.

The Adactus Housing Group, based in Leigh, was put in the top 10 organisations in the sector in an annual league table compiled by a national newspaper.

The organisation also picked up a special Innovation in Engagement award for its healthy living fund, which enables staff to apply for up to £100 to be spent on stress-busting activities.

Adactus had the highest score for work-life balance of any mid-sized company in the table, with 77 per cent of staff feeling positive about the amount of time they spent in and out of the office, and had a 79 per cent rating for healthy employees.

Hilary Roberts, the group’s chief executive, said: “We are really proud to be recognised as an extraordinary organisation for workplace engagement.

“Only the very best employers in the country secure a place on The Sunday Times’ Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For list and we are in the top 10. This is fantastic.

“Our employees are key to our success and we invest a great deal in their welfare. We will carry on with the same momentum making sure Adactus continues to offer an excellent and enjoyable working environment”.

The top 100 list, compiled by Best Companies, is based on eight criteria including management and leadership, employees’ wellbeing, giving something back to staff and ensuring a fair deal for those who work there.

Organisations getting into the list, which is intended for charities, groups set up for local benefit, community interest companies (CICs) and public sector employers such as councils, also have to ensure employees can achieve personal growth in their jobs.

Adactus is a group of housing associations which look after more than 13,000 social homes across the North West.

The organisation says its aim is to provide warm, safe and affordable properties for people too cash-strapped to pay market rents and to act as a focus for community activity in neighbourhoods.

The awards were announced at the Best Companies to work for event in London.
