A Leigh women’s organisation sprang into action to make sure the town wasn’t lacking in colour as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee approached.

Recognising that Leigh’s Cenotaph Gardens was in need of brightening, Soroptimist International Club of Leigh & District decided to take action.

Wigan Council agreed to the Soroptimists’ request to plant red, white and blue summer flowers at the entrances to the Gardens.

Working in partnership with the local branch of the Royal British Legion and B&Q Superstore Leigh the hard-working and generous volunteers hope that the royal colours will provide pleasure to the many users of the Gardens in the coming months.
