You need to go into SEAT Exeo ownership with your eyes wide open.

Many will be intrigued by the offer of Audi build quality at SEAT prices.

And the low emissions and excellent fuel economy of these Ecomotive models might well seem a deal that’s too good to be true.

Like all such deals, there’s usually a caveat and in this instance it comes in the form of fairly steep depreciation.

This means that the cheapest Ecomotive comes in at around 60 pence per mile over three years and 30,000 miles.

That’s about 5p per mile more than a comparable budget brand contender like the Skoda Octavia.

The 2.0 TDI common rail diesel unit emits just 117g/km of CO2 and returns up to 62.8mpg on the combined cycle.

Equipment levels are better than the class norm, with even the entry-level model getting 16-inch ‘Morfeo’ alloy wheels, dual zone climate control, cruise control, voice-activated Bluetooth and a multi-function steering wheel.

There’s a lot to like about the Exeo Ecomotive.

It still feels very substantial and the engines are both belters. With a price walk of about £750 from the 120 to the 143PS engine and no penalty in economy and emissions, the punchier engine seems like a good deal, but many customers in this sector are merely looking to limit their financial exposure and will plump for the 120PS car. They won’t be disappointed.
