LEIGH Music Society is sending out a desperate appeal for music lovers in the town to support the local concert scene.

Dwindling audiences have seen the future of the society, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, come under threat as it can no longer afford to pay the fees of visiting performers.

The society offers two hours of music on the first Sunday afternoon of each month between October and March in the Derby Room, located upstairs in the Leigh Library building.
