STUDENTS from a Leigh judo club who took part in gradings, passed to the next belt with many achieving more than one level improvement.

But even those achievements at the Yoshin Ryu Judo Club (off Church Street) were topped by brother and sister, Sean and Chloe McDaid, who both graded three levels.

Chloe jumped from White (beginner) to Orange and Sean earned his Brown Belt One as well as the trophy for ‘Best Student’.

The grading awards were announced at a presentation evening at Woo Hing Chinese Restaurant. And also among the awards was the presentation of Black Belt 1st Dan to long standing club member and club chairman, Gary Firth.

He said: “At 39 this is a real achievement and I am very proud of that. I hope to do justice to the club for the faith it has invested in me”.
