Leigh Community Trust, official community partner of the Leigh Centurions have been awarded funding from SKY Sports from their Sky Try initiative.
Sky Try aims to develop grassroots rugby through their Primary League which Leigh Community Trust will deliver to Year 3 and 4 pupils in the local schools.
The programme will allow more local eight and nine year olds to experience rugby in a school environment and by then linking up with the community clubs in the area, develop and strengthen the number of children that play at amateur club level.
Commenting on the funding success, community development coordinator, Heather Parker-Preece said: “The funding will enable the Trust to visit more schools which will increase the number of children benefiting from having fun and ‘giving rugby a try’, whether that be through playing Primary League, becoming a spectator of Leigh Centurions or even watching Rugby League on SKY, everyone’s a winner with what we believe is the greatest sport.”
