Leigh Centurions coach Paul Rowley has dismissed suggestions that the “best team lost” after a dramatic finish to the game at Keighley yesterday.

Having led for much of the game, Leigh found themselves behind with time almost up against a determined Cougars outfit.

But Adam Higson scored in the last minute to preserve Leigh’s winning start to the season.

“I don’t agree with this ‘best team lost’ stuff,” said Rowley. “I thought we were the best team and we won.

“We are capable of more and didn’t hit the highs of previous weeks. On review, I thought there were some horrendous calls against us but there is no way we’re embarrassed to take the win.

“In some areas we were a bit undercooked and have lots to learn but I was happy to go home with the points.”

Leigh are the only side in the Kingstone Press Championship to have won all four of their fixtures. On Friday they take on amateurs Wigan St Pat’s in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.
