Weekend friendlies set up

Leigh Cricket Club have arranged two pre-season friendly fixtures.

On Saturday 7th April Leigh will entertain Haslingden, of the Lancashire League, at Beech Walk on Saturday, April 7, and on Sunday, April 8 will visit Bolton league side Westhoughton.

Haslingden finished 10th in the Lancashire league last season whilst Westhoughton were in mid-table of the Bolton League but both matches are sure to be stern tests for a Leigh side being led for the first time by new skipper Neil Williams.

Williams said: “These fixtures represent a really important preparation for the start of the season and I am really looking forward to working with the players in a competitive situation. All players within the first team squad will feature, and it will be everyone’s chance to put down a marker for the season against good opposition.”

Leigh’s new signings Adam Hodgkins and Chris Riley are also sure to feature and it will be a good opportunity to introduce them to a Leigh team which finished 3rd in the Liverpool District Cricket competition in 2011.

Build up to the season begins with the senior winter net programme from February 5 at Culcheth High School. Any players interested in joining Leigh for the 2012 season are welcome to attend the winter nets or contact Dave Dove on 07834 090579 for more details.
