Astley & Tyldesley riders have enjoyed a terrific weekend of racing, recording some excellent results.
Racing in the 4th North Regional Round of the British Youth & Junior League at a rain soaked Bury, A & T took 2nd place in the U-12 section, to qualify for the National series, as a team, for the first time since regional qualification was introduced in 1999. A & T fielded three debutants in the U-8 match and all three girls recorded a race win each, as Jasmin Waterworth and Mia Wibberley went on to take 3rd and 4th places in the Grand Prix ‘A’ Final, with Manisha Waterworth winning the ‘B’ Final. Max Evans continued his excellent form to win the U-10s Grand Prix ‘A’ Final, holding off a strong challenge from 2nd placed Callum Maguire. Matt Snell won the ‘B’ Final, ahead of Tom Whitwam. Dan Burns belied his inexperience to take 4th place in the U-12 ‘A’ Final, with Reece Pollitt taking a great win in the U-14 ‘A’ Final.

A & T had three riders racing in the Northern U-10 Individual Championships at Heckmondwike on Sunday. Once again, all three riders put in a terrific show and almost made it a clean sweep for the club. Max Evans rode to a 20 points maximum score to take the title, one place ahead of Tom Whitwam, who dropped his only point to Max, to finish on 19. Matt Snell scored 17 points, which was sufficient to put him in a three rider run-off for 3rd place. His 3rd place in that race saw him finish in 5th place overall, behind Charlie Wade of Hull and William Naylor of Heckmondwike.
The next match at Gin Pit is this forthcoming Sunday, when A & T take on Stockport in a Northern Combination League match. First race is at 4.30 pm. This match is followed by an A & T Go-Ride Grand Prix Round. Registrations at 5.45 pm, first race at 6.15 pm. For further details, please go to the club’s website at www.astleycyclespeedway.org.uk
