Solid showing by Colts

Ashton on Mersey 0 Tyldesley RUFC Senior Colts 54

This was a great start for Bongs, but far more impressive than the result was the performance of U17s players Coyne, Chahboune, Donegan and Taylor who all had superb debuts for the u19s, settling in quickly with good support and encouragement from their new team mates.

Tyldesley recorded the first points in the seventh minute, a ball from the scrum had Unsworth burst through taking a few defenders with him as he forced his way over. Five minutes later Griffiths intercepted and touched down to increase the lead.

More pressure from Tyldesley in the 20th minute resulted in a scrum; Lloyd cut through the home defence, after a show and go, for a try. Monks then crossed the line six minutes later after interplay between forwards and backs saw him ghost past the defence via some great footwork. Weaver crashed over after another determined run and expert handling as the half came to a close. Griffiths converted four to give a half time score of 33-0.

The hosts could have easily rolled over but showed great determination instead, making Tyldesley work hard throughout the second half, although the visitors went over within two minutes of the restart. Strong drives from Gaskell, Ashmead, and Bashua resulted in the ball being shipped out wide for Griffiths to go over for a great team try.

Tyldesley kept the pressure on via Prendergast, Mennell, Taylor and Coyne. A quickly taken penalty in the 42nd minute had Griffiths complete his hat-trick after Chahboune and Donegan caused problems with Morley providing the final pass, he then crossed himself for the final score of the game 11 minutes later. Lloyd converted two., Griffiths one.
