Leigh Harriers were the top team at the 7th Central Lancs Grand Prix Road League meeting.
The race took place at Leigh Harriers stadium at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, September 4. Runners completed a five mile trail course around the Pennington area. Leigh performed well winning the ladies and team race and finishing second in the men’s race.
Under cloudless skies the morning started with a 1.5 mile fun run which was won by two of Leigh’s most talented young athletes Joseph Wane winning the boys and Keely Hodgkinson the girls race.
The 5 mile trail race was run over an improved course around Pennington Flash, and saw the course record broken by Nick Lee of Altrincham AC running a time of 26:44. Twenty seven Leigh Harriers runners competed in the race and were on top form.
Dionne Allen led the ladies team to finish in first place in a time of 29:44 and close behind was Laura Riches finishing in 2nd place in a time of 30:03sec and Georgina Leck took third in 31:57. Liam Thompson came 2nd in the men’s race in 27:49 after a tough battle with Liam Moore who finished in third place in 27:58. Neil Pendlebury came 9th in a time of 28:40 making it a team double for Leigh.
