A hard-fought draw was the result between Leigh and Ormskirk at Beech Walk, as the home side were not quite able to bowl out their fellow title chasers.
Batting first, Leigh confidently compiled 236-7dec from 58 overs with all the top order responding well from last week’s disappointing effort. Mattie McKiernan (70*) anchored the innings whilst around him others were able to score freely, placing Leigh in a confident position at the turn of innings.
Leigh fought hard to take 10 wickets on a pitch which offered little help to the attack. The Ormskirk openers put on 146 for the first wicket but when Leigh made their first breakthrough this caused a slight wobble in the creditable but crumbling run chase. As the visitors continued to chase the target of 237 chances fell to Leigh who gratefully accepted them. When Dempster (4-63) returned for a successful second spell, taking four wickets, Leigh sensed an upset. But steely defence from the penultimate Ormskirk pair meant a draw as they finished on 208-8.
