Astley VIP professional boxer Lee Bennett is a man on a mission.
The undefeated welterweight recently returned from an 18 month injury absence with a points victory over Birmingham’s Andrew Patterson in a fight that was described as the ‘best small hall fight of the year’.
One part of boxing that the fans don’t see is the commitment that professional boxers put into their training before a fight.
For Lee and his unbeaten brother Wayne this includes 80 mile round trips three times each week to attend training sessions at the VIP gym in Astley, plus the running and strength training that they undertake when they are not in the gym.
For Lee the quality of training he receives in Astley more than makes up for the long car journeys.
In an effort to make up for lost time during his enforced injury absence from the ring Lee is hoping that 2012 will be the year that sees him move up the British rankings with regular fights – starting with his next fight on February 25 in Oldham, where he will be joined by fellow Astley VIP prospect Johnnie Ward who will be looking for his fourth straight win since joining the professional ranks.
Tickets for the show can be purchased from the VIP gym on Chaddock Lane.
