Hodgkinson and Wane impress for Harriers

The third Mid Lancs Track and Field League meeting was hosted by Southport Waterloo at Litherland on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon.

Leigh had a series of outstanding results; Keely Hodgkinson ran a national grade 1 time entirely unchallenged, winning the U13 girls 800 mts in a time of 2:20.80, and Joseph Wane knocked 20 seconds off his best time finishing in second place in the U15 boys 3000 mts in a time of 10:36.7. Karran Kapur-Walton won the boys U13 100 mts 14.1 sec and recorded a personal best in the high jump clearing 1.30m for 3rd place. Joanna Smith won her heat in the U13 girls 100 mts in 14.8 sec and was placed 2nd in the 1500 mts 5:51.3; Laura Hickey was in good form in the U13 girls sprints winning her heat of the 100 mts 14.5 and 3rd in the 200mts 29.2 . Melissa Evans ran personal best times in the under 17 girls 300 mts 44.2 sec and 27.6 sec in the 200 mts, whilst Sanna McLean won the under 15 girls 300 mts 46.8 sec and placed 4th in the long jump. Sally Sweeny ran a personal best time in the 300 mts 49.9 sec for 3rd place 4.19m and Emma McIntyre was 2nd in the girls under 13 800mts 2:44.8.

Eve Williams ran a gutsy race to finish 2nd in the U15 800 mts 2:29.1. Rebecca Woolley had good results in the sprints 2nd in the 200 mts 28.2 sec and 3rd in the 100 mts 13.6 sec; Jacob Briscoe U15 was just outside his personal best in the 1500 mts running a time of 4:49.7 sec for second place. In her first race for the club Jemima Mary showed potential coming 2nd in the 100 mts 14.00sec and throwing the Shot with a respectable 7.07m. In the 800 mts Heat 1 Josef Short was 6th 2:35.4, and in Heat 2 Elliot Livingston was 3rd 2:42.1; and Kristian Wade was 5th in his U15 800m race - looking strong he clocked 2:22.5. In the sprints Connor Patterson ran 13.5 secs in the 100 mts for 4th place. Three athletes recorded 15.00 sec for their 100m races - in Lucas White, Leah Kinsella and Aaron Lester 15.00; Billy Blain recorded 15.1 sec.

Laura Riches competed in the National Track and Field Championships at Birmingham on Saturday competing in the senior ladies 3000 mts steeple chase. Laura, who is the Northern Champion and was bronze medal winner in the National under 23 championships finished in 8th place in a season’s best time of 10:50.64.
