With third spot and a home play-off booked, East travelled to Hull Dockers on Tuesday for an 8pm kick off at the home of Hull KR, Craven Park.
Up to one hour before their 4.30pm departure the coaches were ringing around to put together a team and finally put together 16 plus coach Mick Fishwick on standby for the 17th man. The squad was made up of four of the U18s, three from the thirds and nine who had played a few games in the top flight this term, all relishing the prospect of playing at Craven Park.
Dockers needed to win this game to have any chance of a play-off spot and were made to work for their victory by an inexperienced but spirited East team. Under 18s second row Brad Hargreaves, scored both East tries either side of the break in a great game of rugby league on a Super League ground. On Saturday, Dockers beat Wigan St Pats to deny Miners a play off spot.
The first elimination round in the play-offs this coming Saturday feature East hosting West Hull (2.30pm at Ledgard Ave) and Hull Dockers going to Wath Brow Hornets. The winners face each other the following Saturday for a shot at the loser of the top two playoff game between Siddal and Thatto Heath.
This Friday evening, East seconds face Clock Face Miners in the final of the North West Counties challenge cup at Leigh Miners, 7pm kick off.
