Astley & Tyldesley hosted Round 4 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Wednesday.

The evening started off on a sombre note, as a minute’s silence was held in memory of former A & T rider and St. John’s Ambulance cadet, Ben Keen, who had been killed the day before in a motor cycle accident.

Callum Maguire and Max Evans both raced unbeaten in the U-10s match, this being notable for Callum’s first maximum score, which included some impressive passing. Matt Snell chipped in with a useful 10 points and young Manisha Waterworth gallantly finished each race against older opposition. Daniel Burns put in a game performance against more experienced opposition in the U-13s category. Joel Partington and Reece Pollitt demonstrated their continued improvement with some fast racing and good scores in the U-16s event. These performances were good enough to give A & T a narrow win on the night, finishing 4 points clear of Bury and 8 points clear of Stockport. With two rounds remaining in this series, A & T are in a strong position to win this competition for the first time since 2009.
