Astley & Tyldesley’s youngsters were in action at Stockport on Saturday, in the third North Regional Round of the British Youth & Junior League series. A & T put in some great performances to take 2nd place on the day in the U12 match and keep on track to qualify for the national rounds later this summer.

John White took 2nd place in the U8 ‘A’ Final. In the U10 category, Max Evans raced unbeaten in his qualifying heats and went on to win the U-10 ‘A’ Final. Tom Whitwam took 3rd place in that final, with Matt Snell winning the ‘B’ Final. Adam Phillips went through the card unbeaten, to win the U-14 ‘A’ Final. Reece Pollitt had also qualified for that final, but pulled out, feeling the effects of a wrist injury sustained when he fell in an earlier heat.

A & T riders enjoyed a successful afternoon’s racing in the Northern Junior Grand Prix series at Sheffield on Sunday. Max Evans scored a 16 points maximum, in the U-10 event, whilst Tom Whitwam scored 14 with some good overtaking moves. There were good showings too from Matt Snell and Daniel Burns, in the U-10 and U-13 events respectively.

A & T are continuing their weekly club practice sessions, every Tuesday evening, starting at 7 pm, at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners’ Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, M29 7DW. The sessions are open to existing club members and prospective newcomers, with bikes and helmets available for hire. For further details, visit the club’s website at www.astleycyclespeedway.org.uk
