A TEAM of footie-mad youngsters were put through their paces by professional community coaches as part of a memorable day out at a Premier League match.
Astley and Tyldesley Football Club’s U7s team enjoyed an hour-long training session with a Manchester City community coach on the Astroturf pitches in sight of the Etihad Stadium before watching the Citizens take on Blackburn Rovers last Saturday.
The trip came about after City fan Rachel Yilmaz, whose son plays for Astley and Tyldesley, enquired about booking for children and was offered the coaching session as well, to the delight of the young players.
Rachel, from Astley, said: “Some of the children on the team have never had the chance to go a really big Premier League match before, even though they’re really keen on football, so they were just so excited.
“The children support a mixture of clubs, with United and City, Bolton and Liverpool, but they all loved going to watch the City game.
“They’ve all been a bit fed up recently because with the bad weather over Christmas and January they had a lot of matches cancelled and were trapped inside unable to play much, so going to the game definitely perked them all up a bit.”
The lads will now hope the tips passed on by City’s expert coaching staff will help them to new heights in their Bolton and Bury League U7s division campaign.
