Bolton Chairman steps down

THE chairman of Bolton Wanderers, Phil Gartside, has stepped down from his duties as chairman of the club because of illness.

Sources at the club say Mr Gartside, a Leigh Grammar School old boy, is “seriously ill.”

The 63-year-old, who has served in the role since 1999, has been in poor health for a number of weeks.

Trevor Birch will act on behalf of the club with immediate effect.
