Back in the top six

Skirlaugh 10 Leigh Miners 18

Leigh Miners Rangers broke back into the top six with this win at relegation haunted Skirlaugh. First half tries from Aaron Gorton and another long range spectacular from Liam Coleman had Miners 12-0 up at the break but Skirlaugh, in their first game under new management as they bid to beat the drop, battled back in the second half. Ultimately a match-winning performance by Jonny Youds secured the two points for the Leigh side.

The Alliance team had a tremendous 11-10 win over second placed Bold Miners to climb level on points with their St Helens opponents.

This weekend is a busy one at Miners with the Alliance entertaining Ince Rose Bridge and the first team at home against Thatto Heath Crusaders (Saturday 18th, 2.30pm). Also on Saturday the junior sides of Miners and Thatto will contest this year’s Fred Hilton Cup Final, 1pm kick off. On Sunday a charity tick-and-pass tournament is being staged at Twist Lane featuring Leigh stars of the past against amateur Masters players, with the funds going towards Kelsie Ashcroft and her family.
