Rugby league’s top try scorer Ryan Brierley has been branded a “special” player by his coach Paul Rowley.

The half-back scored another hat-trick as Leigh saw off Featherstone to reach the quarter finals of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup on Sunday.

“Ryan is a special player,” said Rowley. “We are very lucky to have him in our ranks. He wins us games and is fantastic lad.”

Brierley recently committed his long term future to the club after Super League side Salford Red Devils made moves to sign him earlier this year.

Rowley said: “We are blessed to have him. As a club I hope we can keep progressing at the rate he is. Hopefully we can keep up with him in terms of development and progression.”

A former Westhoughton Lions player, Brierley first came to Leigh on extended loan from Castleford before signing permanently in 2012.
