Leigh Centurions intend hitting the 2014 season running, if their demanding six game warm-up programme is anything to go by.
Coach Paul Rowley and Director Andy Mazey have worked together to line up SIX pre-season games that will test the first team and under 20s squads to the hilt and prepare them for a strong start to their League campaigns.
“There are games against Wigan Warriors, Salford Red Devils and Warrington Wolves from Super League as well as North Wales Crusaders, Halifax and Oxford Cavaliers from the Championship and Championship One.” explained the Centuries Andy Mazey. “Paul has put a lot of work into agreeing these games with the respective coaches of the clubs, and will utilise them to benefit the players as he sees fit.
“We did have dates for the games against Halifax and Oxford penciled in, but are awaiting confirmation of the Championship fixtures and start date for the new season before releasing those.”
Rowley was delighted to get the sign up of the coaches at the clubs they will be playing especially those from Super League.
“With the World Cup and the early start to Super League on February 7 for Wigan, there is only a very small window for those clubs to book any pre-season fixtures.“ he explained. “But we have Wigan on January 19; Salford on January 31 and then Warrington on February 2 all at home.
“I have agreed with Shaun Wane and Brian Noble that the games against Wigan and Salford will be full strength hit ups. I have also agreed with Tony Smith at Warrington that the game against them will include fringe players and Under 20s players.
“We also have North Wales Crusaders on January 26 and of course Halifax and Oxford should mean that all our players in both squads will have had plenty of game time to shake off the cobwebs to get them ready for what lies ahead.”
