Leigh have extended the contract of head coach Neil Jukes just six weeks into the job.

Jukes was promoted from assistant coach on the eve of the 2016 Kingstone Press Championship season following the shock resignation of Paul Rowley and has now signed a new deal which will keep him at the Leigh Sports Village until the end of 2018.

The Centurions, who have bounced back from their surprise opening defeat at Batley to take nine points from their last five matches despite being without half-backs Ryan Brierley and Rangi Chase, have also agreed improved and extended contracts with assistant coach Paul Anderson and strength and conditioners Nathan Pennington and Paul Wood.

Leigh owner Derek Beaumont said: “Neil is a great bloke and is really easy to work with. I have seen first-hand his knowledge and ability over the last two years so didn’t doubt that.

“What I have been really impressed with are his management skills and his honesty in dealing with situations. The way he has dealt with the past few weeks was what has left me in no doubt he is the man for the job.”
