THE hard work has just started for Leigh Centurions who have clinched the Kingstone Press League Leaders’ Shield for a second year running.
Paul Rowley’s men will turn their attentions to Super8s after their final home league game of the season against Doncaster on Sunday.
Last night, Ryan Brierley scored a hat-trick of tries as Leigh overpowered Dewsbury in the second half on their way to a 40-24 win.
“There were some magical moments against Dewsbury,” said Rowley. “We scored some good tries and showed plenty of skill.”
By finishing top, Leigh will be at home four times during the Super8s as they bid to reach Super League for the first time since 2005.
“Winning the league two years in a row is a huge achievement from the players. Sometimes there’s a temptation to look too far ahead and miss the moment.
“But on Sunday we will make sure we celebrate with our fans properly and it should be a really good day.
“It was mission accomplished as far as we have concerned and the player and staff deserve all the credit. We are a very ambitious and confident club and looking forward to the new format.
“There will be a step up in intensity and we can’t wait to get started.”
