FIRE crews were called to a derelict mill after youths broke in and started a fire.
Three fire crews and 15 fire fighters were called to Mather House mill, Mather Lane, Leigh, at about 9pm on Saturday after reports that the old building was on fire.
When they got to the scene the second floor of the mill was full of smoke so a number of firefighters had to go in to find the exact location of the blaze and put it out.
A quantity of carpet and furniture had been set alight and although the fire itself was not severe the amout of smoke made it a difficult job for the crews who were at the scene for three hours.
A spokesman for Leigh Fire Station said: “We want to make it clear to youngsters that these places are not safe to hang around in, they are full of hidden dangers.”
