A shout to call the cops

WHEN I lived for a time in Glasgow, I was walking up this dark street when I saw two young men kicking into this lad, on the ground, then they brought out a knife and stabbed him.

Now I learned this saying from a James Cagney film, I shouted, the cops are coming.

Their feet never touched the ground, they were off.

I shouted some neighbours out and they phoned for an ambulance.

The ambulance got him to hospital and he lived for years, his name was James McGinity.

I am just trying to tell old people if they see someone attacking anyone, the all magic words are “The cops are coming.”
