A REVELLER was left fighting for his life after he was assaulted during a night out celebrating New Year.

More than three weeks after the attack, and it is still not known if the 39-year old victim will recover fully from his injuries. He has since suffered two bleeds to the brain.

The victim was punched and knocked unconscious during a fracas at the Red Lion pub on Church Street, Golborne, at about 1.30am on January 1.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed pending further inquiries.

DC Julian Hopkins, of Wigan CID, said: “The victim has suffered horrendous injuries, and we do not know when or if he will make a full recovery.

“I want to hear from anyone who was in the pub celebrating the New Year and who might be able to help me establish what happened or who is responsible.

“We have released a picture of the victim in the clothes – he was wearing on the night in the hope it will jog someone’s memory.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 5307, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
