LEIGH’S thousand member strong branch of Britain’s largest union today joined calls on the Government to drop its controversial Health and Social Care Bill.

They are to send a motion calling on the Executive Council of the Unite the Union to organise a national demonstration in London and to support Leigh MP and Shadow Health Minister Andy Burnham’s call, in Parliament to put the bill on ice.

Chairman of Leigh Unite Stephen Hall said: “Our Branch believes the EC should seek the broadest possible involvement and support of the wider trades union movement.”

They suggest that the demo is staged mid February.
