A PRIMARY school in Tyldesley is celebrating after being awarded a prestigious environmental prize for the second time.
Garrett Hall Primary School, on Garrett Lane, has been given a second Green Flag Award by the Eco-Schools scheme, which recognises high-quality teaching of environmental issues and work done to make schools sustainable.
The school recycles paper, plastic and clothes, and the buildings have also been fitted with water and electricity-saving devices.
Pupils at the school are also able to grow their own food in a vegetable patch, while the school grounds have also been developed to improve the natural environment.
Currently around 1,600 schools across England have been given the Green Flag Award, the third of four levels of environmental awareness awards which schools can apply for through Eco Schools England, part of Keep Britain Tidy.
