FIREFIGHTERS passed on safety tips to a group of adults with learning difficulties after they had watched a blaze on a popular TV soap.

The Just BU community interest company was visited by firefighters from Green Watch at Leigh fire station who went through having a plan to evacuate buildings in the event of fires and stressed the importance of having a working smoke alarm.

Watch manager Mick Callan said: “It was nice to be able to show them that as firefighters, our crews are there to help them with fire safety and that they shouldn’t be frightened of our uniform.”

Just BU was set up by former Wigan Council youth worker Justin Fellows who said: “After the fire on Coronation Street we did a fire safety project because some people with learning difficulties hadn’t come across people wearing uniforms before. ”
