VETERANS gave Leythers a trip down memory lane with a poignant display of all the town’s military yesterdays.

The Friendly Loyals, which represents ex-servicemen from the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, put up display boards of soldiers from Leigh who served in the Armed Forces between 1914 and 1945 in the entrance to the Asda store on Atherleigh Way.

The display was organised by Ex-Cpl Harold Hartley and Ex L/cpl Malcolm Vickers, whose father and grandfather were also in the Forces and wore the same cap badge through a century of service.

The Friendly Loyals meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Conservative Club in Market Street, Hindley, and any former members of the Armed Forces are welcome.

The photos from the display can also be viewed at the organisation’s website, www.friendlyloyals.com.

Anyone who has old photos they would like to share for future displays should contact Harold Hartley on 01204 451548.
