Offers of donations and support have been pouring in after plans were revealed for a memorial to a cat.

Solomon was described as a “local celebrity” and was well known for visiting Leigh Library, Leigh Parish Church and surrounding buildings.

Since he died last month, businessman Lee Robert McStein, who runs Monument Men, has been working on plans to create a memorial.

Following an article in last week’s Observer, he said he has been offered materials and people have pledged money to help him create the statue.

He said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. A lot of people have contacted me.”

Mr McStein said Solomon’s owners support the plans.

He is now working on four designs for the statue, with a vote planned for people to choose which one is used.

He is also speaking to several venues about where the statue could be placed.
