A NEW Asda supermarket has opened.

Among the staff at Windermere Road in Leigh are 19 workers who have stayed on from Netto – which was formerly in the site – amongst other new employees.

Representatives from Joining Communities, the social enterprise working with communities to develop greater cohesion, officially opened the store.

Manager Steve Perkins said: “We’re delighted Joining Communities could join us at the opening of our new store as we wanted to involve members of the local community to help us celebrate its arrival. We’ll work hard to ensure we play our part helping our other neighbours out in the future by getting involved with future events and good causes.”

Paul Worswick, finance co-ordinator at Joining Communities, added: “It’s a real honour to be asked to open the new Asda in Leigh and I loved being the first to shop in the new store.”
