A NEW Leigh & District fund-raising group for Marie Curie Cancer Care celebrated its launch.
The group members are made up of local volunteers and supporters and they are now seeking other people in the area to join them and get involved.
This is a new opportunity for the charity in the area and Marie Curie Cancer Care would welcome anyone who’d like to be involved to help boost the Wigan Evening Post’s Safe Hands Appeal..
The group will hold events, help out with the annual Daffodil Appeal, supermarket collections and also have the opportunity to share their own fantastic ideas to raise vital funds.
Local fund-raiser Siobhan Heffernan said: “Marie Curie Cancer Care’s fund-raising groups are a brilliant way to get together with other supporters of the charity, meeting once a month or so, to look after a range of fund-raising activities in the area.
“All the money raised by the group will go towards our Ashton, Leigh and Wigan nurse appeal. As the demand for our service grows the support of our fund-raising groups is absolutely invaluable and a group like this will certainly make fund-raising even more fun for our supporters in Leigh, not to mention helping to bring in more money to fund our nursing service across the area.
“They also really help us spread the word about our nursing service, which provides high quality nursing care, totally free, to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home supported by their families.
“Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for coming together to help raise much needed funds.”’
The group is already planning Christmas collections.
