A pensioner pushing a baby in a pram has been sexually assaulted by a man in Atherton.
The woman, aged 70, was leaving a park on Bee Fold Lane at around 2.40pm on Tuesday (June 19), when she was approached from behind by the man who sexually assaulted her before he running off.
The man is described as being 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build. He was wearing a grey tracksuit with a stripe going down both sleeves and a grey baseball cap.
Police Constable Shaun Hunter, based at Leigh police station, said: “The victim is understandably distressed about her ordeal and feared for the safety of her grandchild.
“The fact that the man committed this assault on an elderly woman who was out walking with her young granddaughter proves what kind of person the offender is.
“We need to catch him as soon as possible so he does not strike again and I would ask members of the public, particularly women, to remain vigilant when in the area alone.
“It is likely there would have been a number of people in the park at the time of the assault due to the recent weather and I would ask anyone who was there and may have witnessed the assault or a man fitting this description to contact us.
“Understandably, the local community will be concerned but I can reassure them that we are doing all we can to find whoever is responsible.”
