WESTHOUGHTON Rotary Club has organised an annual party in the spring for local old folk for many years, but this year it had a very patriotic theme.
President Jim Yates said: “People so enjoyed the Royal Wedding street party atmosphere last year, that we decided to continue the patriotic theme with a St George’s Party.
“Westhoughton Town Council awarded a grant towards the costs and the mayor, Harry Bowling made a welcome appearance.”
A traditional meal of meat and potato pie and apple pie was followed by Eatock Primary School choir opening the entertainment. Many of the 155 guests wore decorated buttonholes ready for the competition judged by Kathleen Harrington, President Westhoughton Inner Wheel; Christine Morris, Westhoughton Town Council Secretary and Sheena Yates, wife of Rotary President Jim.
They awarded four equal top prizes to Wilf Dylan and Jim Stott, Joan Spaldwell and Alice Gordon. All entrants were congratulated and received an Easter egg.
