Bolton West MP Julie Hilling has been promoted in Labour Leader Ed Miliband’s Shadow Cabinet.
Atherton-based Ms Hilling, who has served as Shadow Parliamentary Private Secretary in Yvette Cooper’s Women and Equalities team since October 2010, now joins the Labour frontbench as a Whip.
The Bolton West MP now has the job of ensuring unity amongst North West Labour MPs and for votes concerning the Foreign and International Development offices of state.
“This is a very great honour and I am delighted to take up this new position,” Ms Hilling said. “However my first, and most important priority, will always be to continue representing my constituents”.
Ms Hilling returns to her constituency each week on a Thursday evening and carries out visits and meetings every Friday and during the weekend. She holds fortnightly surgeries at her Westhoughton office and regular surgeries throughout the constituency, often with local Labour councillors.
Labour Leader Ed Miliband said: “I am delighted that Julie has joined the Labour frontbench. Julie is an extremely hardworking Member of Parliament and she will be a great asset to the Whips Office”.
