MAYOR of Wigan Coun Myra Whiteside will lead off an annual sponsored walk around Pennington Flash on Sunday for her charity appeal.
The trek will take in the stunning views of the country park and follow a section of the recently upgraded canal towpath.
The Mayor said: “I may be a little biased here as the walk includes a lot of my own ward, but I am proud to show off the wonderful work done by Groundwork Lancashire West and Wigan, the Canal and River Trust and the council. I well remember how muddy the canal path used to be – and now it has been transformed.”
It’s six months since Coun Whiteside welcomed HRH The Duke of Gloucester and showed him work being done to improve Pennington Flash. The two years project has seen the council, working closely in partnership with Greenheart, improve six kilometres of Leigh Branch (Leeds and Liverpool Canal) towpath.
