VETERANS in Leigh are being invited to an annual lunch to commemorate the dedication and sacrifice of the Armed Forces by the town’s MP.
Shadow Secretary of State for Health Andy Burnham will host the annual luncheon, open to anyone who has previously served in the military, at Leigh Miners Welfare Institute, on Twist Lane, on Friday, November 9.
Any veteran who lives in the Leigh constituency is invited to the event, but ex-servicemen thinking of going are advised to book quickly as the lunch has sold out in previous years.
The event will also have an extra poignancy in remembering those who have lost their lives in combat as it will take place on the weekend of Remembrance Sunday.
Mr Burnham said: “It’s a real honour for me to be able to organise this annual event.
“I’m immensely proud to be the MP of such a great constituency, and that is possible because of the courage and determination of veterans across the Leigh area who stood up for what is good and right.
“This year’s event is a celebration of those men and women, and along with communities across the Leigh area, I am personally grateful to them for their service to our country.”
Anyone wishing to attend the event should contact Mr Burnham’s constituency office on 01942 682353.
