LEIGH MP Andy Burnham visited a health truck touring the borough to raise awareness of healthy lifestyles in order to prevent strokes.

The Shadow Secretary of State for Health dropped in for a health check at the Feel Well Truck, which made a stop on Bradshawgate during a week-long awareness drive.

The campaign, organised by community group Think Ahead, provided Leythers with advice on how to prevent strokes and tips on health topics ranging from tips on quitting smoking to improving diet. NHS nurses also carried out free blood pressure checks.

Think Ahead chairman Mike Aspinall said: “Around 1,000 people experience strokes across Wigan and Leigh every year and research tells us that half of those cases may be avoidable by making sensible lifestyle choices.”
