AN ATHERTON primary school is marking its 40th anniversary by taking a trip back in time to the 1970s.

Meadowbank Primary School, on Formby Avenue, will mark the milestone birthday with an open day for past and present teachers, parents and pupils on March 2.

The day will attempt to recreate the atmosphere of 1972, when the school first opened, with retro sweet stalls, and old games and quizzes.

Staff and children will also be dressed in 1970s outfits to help create the right ambience for the big birthday celebrations, while a large board in the hall will display the school’s past.

The school is keen for ex-pupils and staff to share their memories on the big day. For more information, or to submit photographs or memories contact Jennifer Parkinson on 01942 486366.
