A MAN has died after being struck by a train near Atherton.
British Transport Police were called to the incident shortly before 8pm on Saturday evening. They confirmed a man had been struck by a train travelling between Daisy Hill station and Hag Fold station. Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were contacted at 7.51pm on Saturday after reports of a person being struck by a train near Hag Fold.
“A man was hit by the Northern Rail 7pm service to Manchester Victoria. It appears the man came from behind a bridge on the Daisy Hill side of Hag Fold station where he was struck by the oncoming train. We are not treating the death as suspicious.”
