A MAN has died after his car was found crashed into a road sign.
Police were called to the westbound carriageway of the East Lancs Road close to its junction with Newton Road at Lowton on Thursday after receiving reports of a collision at about 4.40pm.
Officers arrived to find a silver Mercedes had collided with a road sign. No other cars appeared to have been involved.
Members of the public had stopped to assist the driver, a 56-year-old man, and he was given first aid until paramedics arrived.
He was then taken to Warrington General Hospital but died shortly after his arrival.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
