WOMEN in Wigan and Leigh who are spending the Christmas period in refuges will be given a festive treat thanks to the generosity of the community.

Lucy Cachia-Boyce, the wife of former Latics skipper Emerson Boyce, has collected toiletries and gifts as part of Project ShoeBox, to give to women and young children who are in safe houses after fleeing domestic violence.

And more than 34 boxes full of goodies have been collected.

Lucy said: “It’s pretty incredible. They will be split between Wigan and Leigh and a refuge in North Warrington.

“I was overwhelmed by the response and generosity of the people who donated. I actually became quite emotional as I was checking through the boxes because you could tell people had put a lot of thought into what they donated.”
