The July meeting of Lowton WI was held at Trebaron Garden Centre, where staff member Claire gave and interesting and informative talk.
There was a lovely array of plants on display and Claire explained what varieties they were and how to care for them.
We were also advised that the four main items to concentrate on were; watering, feeding, dead-heading and controlling pests. It seems amazing that even after all the rain we have had, we must water containers daily! We are being encouraged to grow plants which are bee and butterfly friendly following the steep decline in these insects.
We were also shown how to gift wrap plants and following this a bumper raffle was held with many plants and sundries donated by Trebaron and free tea and coffee was served.
This was a wonderful evening and our thanks go to all the staff involved at Trebaron.
The next meeting will be held on August 7 at 7.15pm at All Saints Social Centre, Golborne, and this will be in celebration of the Olympic Games.
