Residents in Leigh sent a powerful message of solidarity to Manchester at a town centre vigil for the victims of the arena terrorist attack.

Dozens of people gathered on Civic Square outside the town hall to mourn those killed at the Ariana Grande concert and show support for the city.

Residents observed a minute’s silence around the obelisk and balloons were then released.

The memorial event on Tuesday evening attracted people of all ages, with families, young children and junior sports teams from the town among those who attended.

The vigil was organised by Paul Sargent and Richard Watts addressed the gathering.
