A YOUNG Atherton man has admitted raiding a shop at knifepoint and stealing £20,000 cash.

Michael Hill, 25, pleaded guilty to robbing the Co-operative store in Manchester Road, Astley, of the cash on August 26 this year.

Hill, of Leigh Road, Atherton, who appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video link equipment from Forest Bank prison, was further remanded in custody.

Defending, William Swalwell told Judge Bryn Holloway that Hill had no previous convictions and asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Judge Holloway agreed and adjourned sentence until October 7.
